Protect Duty Report

At ICC Wales, the safety of our visitors and our teams is of paramount importance and we are engaging with the experts to understand what Protect Duty will mean for our venue, our clients, our events, our partners and our team members.

As this legislation evolves and becomes part of the statute books, we hope that this Protect Duty Report will assist our colleagues in the Events Industry to have greater clarity on what Protect Duty means for us, and our clients, by ensuring that we have the processes and protocols in place to identify and mitigate the risk of a terrorist attack. Protect Duty will assist us in enabling us to continue to create a safe and secure environment for our events and for those who attend them.

In May 2017, Figen Murray’s son, Martyn Hett, was killed in the Manchester Arena Terrorist attack following a concert by the American singer Ariana Grande. As a direct result of this act of terrorism, 22 people tragically lost their lives and over 1,000 people were injured in one of the deadliest attacks in the United Kingdom. Figen Murray is a remarkable woman and despite her devastating loss, she has channelled her grief into campaigning for a law in her son’s name, ‘Martyn’s Law’ to ensure that public spaces and venues put the safety and security of the public first.
